My Night Time Skin Care Routine

wpid-20141230_142539-1.jpg

Aloha!

So today I wanted to share with you my updated night time skin care routine. I will be doing a morning skin care routine later in the week so I can compare the difference in the two and why it’s important to use different products at different times.

My night time skin care routine is pretty simple and to make it even better, all products are drug store products and mostly relatively cheap too! Yay!

I always start with make up wipes, duh, to remove all of the make up from my face (I love simple cleansing wipes they’re so gentle on your skin). Making sure I get right up to my hair line, neck, under my jaw line and around near my ears. But make up wipes will only remove about 80% of your make up, they don’t do the whole job. I also use No7’s eye make up remover, just taking two cotton pads on leaving them over my lashes whilst I remove the rest of my make up, this way it wipes my eye liner & mascara off super easy! So I make sure I finish it off by cleansing my skin thoroughly to get rid of the excess make up, then wiping with a face towel. As you all probably know, I love my Cetaphil, it’s soap free so does no moisture draining damage to your skin and is super gentle on all skin types. Using a separate towel keeps germs to a minimum, this way you’re not spreading germs from the rest of your body and/or your hands all over your face.

Then I cleanse again. This time massaging my face with my hands and using my facial massager to help bring the blood and lymph to the surface of my skin. By doing this you’re skin is aided in quicker repair, looks healthier, aids in control of redness and blemishes and helps your skin look fresher and more supple. Washing off again with my sponges and wiping with my face towel. Did I mention I wash with cold water on a night? This helps keep your skin nice and taut.
*make sure you keep your sponges clean or they will just spread germs! I put mine in boiling soapy water and it works a treat!*

I finish off with my T-zone cream from No7, this is great as my skin does get really quite oily around my t-zone, but this product keeps the oiliness in check with out drying out or damaging my skin. It also helps to keep redness and blemishes away and really reduces large pores. My skin actually feels softer and more moisturised after regular use. And if I have any spots that need worrying about, out comes my No7 Spot Rescue. I’ve done a review blog about the Spot Rescue Gel which you can check out here. This stuff is amazing, it gets rid of even the worst spots in a maximum of 2 days, leaves no dryness or flakiness at all! One dab of this on your spots and they don’t stand a chance!

I don’t moisturise the rest of my face on a night, as personally too much moisturiser on my skin tends to cause me to break out. Especially when you’re face is squashed against a pillow on a night and disallowed air for your skin to breath whilst it sweats away and gathers dirt. Yum! All the more reason to regularly change your bed sheets and keep your hair out of your face on a night. I always tie mine back. It has hugely reduced me breaking out on my forehead and getting spots on parts of my neck.

I hope you all enjoyed this blog! Like below if you did!

My Winter Skin Care Must Haves & Skin Care Tips!

wpid-20141218_203543.jpg

In the picture above you see a rather large pile of ‘stuff’. This pile of ‘stuff’ is so important for me to keep on top of using during the winter season. Why? Because throughout winter your skin goes through the freezing cold of the outside to the warmth of your house when you get in. It gets hit by wind, cold temperatures, rain and snow, then you get inside and instantly hit it with the heating, hot water and rubbing it dry with towels. Due to all your skin goes through during this time of year it’s SO important you take your best care of it. But not just your face, your body too.

You need to make sure you replenish the moisture in your face as the quick mixture of temperatures can really dry it out. But it’s so important to make sure your skin is clean and clear first! There’s no point rubbing moisturiser into dirty skin, all hell will break loose! So once you’ve removed any make up, make sure you cleanse your skin thoroughly to remove any excess, one make up wipe only does half the job, cleanser does the other half. I find soap-free cleansers are the absolute best. Soap holds Alkalis usually in the form of sodium, which can cause damage and reduce moisture in the skin, so it’s best to steer clear of it on your face. Especially in winter!

With the elements hitting you’re skin as they do this time of year, anyone who’s anyone is prone to dry skin, even the oiliest of skin (trust me on that one). Dry skin, if not ex-foliated properly can become a hoarder or bacteria and cause problems with your pores, so it’s key to make sure you’re exfoliating probably every other day. Or use a gentle exfoliator lightly every day.
Ex foliating is quite abrasive and rough against your skin obviously, so it’s so important you moisturise afterwards, otherwise it’s not going to benefit the appearance of your skin at all. Arguably the dry skin will just come back worse, become tight and crack. What I find helps, as your T-zone is quite oil prone still, is to continue to keep up with your T-zone cleansers/lotions, to help your complexion even more thoroughly.

One awesome trick I regularly use is having a face massager (you’ll see in the picture it’s the weird pointy thing on a stick). I use this some nights with my cleanser on, as massaging the skin helps bring the blood to the surface, increasing the repair-ability of your skin tissue. So it’s a big help with dry/cracked skin and spots too.

Now with your body. We often wrap up like crazy in the winter, which can mean our skin is very hot, a bit sweaty and doesn’t have much time to breath. So it’s incredibly important you give your skin a super deep clean when you jump in the shower on an evening. I like to use a thick creamy body wash, as it’s so relaxing and comforting. Or if I’m in the bath, a creamy bath gel with a refreshing scent is always a winner! You also want to make sure you’re skin is on top form in the winter, as it’s not always used to being that warm and tucked away under layers upon layers of clothes, so exfoliating is important here too. Just not as often, I usually do a couple of times a week maybe three times, but use a scrubbing mitten to help buff my skin too. Also, don’t forget you’re feet! They have it the worst and they’re working continuously, so make sure you’ve got a strong foot scrub to hand and you should probably use that a little more regularly!
As before, once you’ve ex-foliated you MUST moisturise, otherwise you’re simply doing further damage to your skin and it’s going to begin to find it difficult to rep,air itself. Dry skin = itchy skin. That’s a difficult one to recover from if you don’t begin to moisturise quickly.

Finally, don’t forget you’re hair!!! With this one, I wouldn’t wash as often, as the natural oils will help protect your hair. I’m not saying walk around like a grease monster, but don’t be washing you’re hair for the sake of it. When you do wash it, apply some conditioner to the bottom 3/4’s once you’re out of the shower to aid in protecting. Or, use a decent hair masque, which is made for helping build up strong hair and use it a little more regularly than usual. I use mine every 2 weeks in this weather. Try and avoid drying your hair too thoroughly too, it just dries it out more.

From above, my top products for winter are:

  • Body Shop’s Vanilla Spice Soap Free Shower Gel
  • Aqueous BP Moisturiser Cream
  • Cetaphil Soap Free Cleanser and Moisturiser
  • St Ives Apricot Face Scrub
  • Body Shop’s Facial Massager
  • Origins Ginger Body Scrub
  • Origins Grapefruit Shower & Bath Gel
  • Shuropody Foot Scrub & Cream
  • Macadamia Deep Repair Hair Masque

I hope you guys enjoyed this and found some interesting & helpful tips hiding in there and wishing you all an amazing start to 2015!

November Faves!

wpid-20141203_211103_richtonehdr.jpg

Hiiiiii,

It’s December! Already! I honestly can’t believe it but I’m not complaining, it’s my favourite time of the year! To kick off December and end November here’s a quick November Faves blog for you. I’ve rekindled my love for some super wintery shades and scents this month and my all time FAVOURITE scarf is back!

Speaking of scarves, hiding under the rest of my faves from last month is my beloved pink cable knit scarf. It’s about 2m in length and the width of my head. It’s bloody massive. The main reason I love this scarf so much is because it’s so thick. Thicker scarves are sturdier, they don’t flail around all over the place exposing your chilly chest and neck that you’re trying oh so hard to keep warm. And even though it’s pink it does work well with almost anything
River Island £10 – yep you heard. Ten. Pounds.

Next is a candle which doesn’t follow the general ‘all candles must smell of baking and sweets and all things cinnamon related’ it’s completely different. Not that I don’t like that kind of smell, it’s just nice to see something different. This candle smells of fresh air and woodland with a slight perfumed hint to it. It’s like how you would imagine taking a breath would be like whilst taking a walk through the fields with your winter coat and snow boots on. LOVELY.
Asda £8

Next up is my favourite nude colour from MAC of all time.Velvet Teddy. I love you. It’s more of a deep nude shade than a lighter one but it works well with so many looks and is perfect for this time of year!
wpid-20141203_212357-2.jpg
It works really well with this body shop lip gloss in shade 10. I’ve had this for years but it never fails to make an appearance at this time of year! This gloss is super light weight and it’s not sticky or slimy, it glides perfectly across your lips. It’s got a mild shimmer to it so it add’s a really nice elegant look to nude lip sticks.

MAC £15.50 & Body Shop £10

Nail Polish Time!
I love getting seasonal with nail polishes and two of my favourites to do it with are Nails Inc’s St Marks Square and Barry M’s Lady, which is a lovely thick sparkly white.
St Mark’s Square is a really pretty autumnal purple with hints of silver to add a little sparkle to it. The shimmer is perfect for this season, especially seeing as though it’s working with a gorgeous plum colour! And Lady. Oh Lady! How you are so snowy and sparkly! This colour is amazing as a snowy white nail colour with out without a white base. Or it’s great as an accent on more nail art based nails as opposed to one basic colour. I love these, they’re perfect for this time of year 🙂

Finally, how can we end this without a christmassy read!! Lindey Kelk’s I heart christmas is such an amazing book. It’s a funny, girly, cute, sweet, problematic novel, which follows a previous 5 I heart books from the series (MUST READ). I like how any girl can relate to every issue in these stories but how it’s so christmassy to the point where it just suddenly makes you sit in the centre of festivities. Reading this on a night makes me feel so warm and snuggly and like you’re right in the middle of christmas spirit. I mean really, what could be more fitting for this time of year! BUY IT!
Ebay/Amazon new or used £1.99-£5.99 – WIN

What’s your favourite things to get you into Christmas mode?!
Let me know!!!

October Faves

wpid-20141113_185045-1.jpg

Hey Ladies!

My October Faves are here, FINALLY! I know it’s late and for that I do apologise! I’ve had a lot going on lately, but I’m going to start doing a SundayFundayUpdate, which is just going to be a general update of my recent goings on and ridiculousness, so all will be revealed soon enough 🙂 Anyway, on with my faves from the past month!

First I’m going to start off with my candle, I seriously can’t stop burning this it’s so gorgeous! It’s called Bermuda Beach, it’s like the scent of a fresh fruit salad with a strong grapefruity base. It’s beautiful. I love to have this on in the bath, it’s not as strong as you may think with is why it’s such a beautiful smell whilst you’re relaxing.

Also I have the Vanilla Spice shower gel from The Body Shop, oh how I love the body shop anyway, regardless of their seasonal sensations. I have no idea how anyone could resist this, I love to have this in the shower these days the scent fits perfectly with the season and the upcoming festivities, I LOVE IT!

I can’t keep away from my St Ives Apricot face scrub either! It was only about £3 from Boots, but it leaves your face super smooth and feeling and smelling fresh as ever. I’ve used this stuff for such a long time and couldn’t believe I hadn’t included it in one of my favourites already, it’s a drug store bargain. It definitely puts other more expensive brands of face exfoliator up for competition.

wpid-20141113_185228.jpg
These are my two favourite colours lately (this took a hella long time to choose!) There’s the white thick glitter polish from Barry M which is like covering your nails with a layer of snow – how perfect is that right now! And Nails Inc’s Mink grey/brown. These shades scream fall/winter in your face and considering how freezing it is outside, reflecting winter in your clothing, makeup and nails wouldn’t surprise anyone right now!

My current favourite lip colour is a frosty pink from No7 called Water lilly
wpid-20141113_185308.jpg
It’s such a beautiful colour and is quite a frosty colour, so for this time of year is so lovely. I personally think it looks beautiful with the more simple and bare faced look. Considering the time of year its a total winner!

wpid-20141113_185346.jpg
Now I’ve recently just done a post about these bad boys, they are phenomenal, Bourjois Color Boost lip crayons,  but this colour is definitely my favourite, it comes out as this gorgeous maroony purple and you can literally wear it with anything. It compliments even the palest of make up. I love wearing it with some dark eyeliner and big lashes, it looks fab, especially when you don’t focus all too much on the rest of you’re make up, just dark eyes and lips!

And finally the most complimentary perfume for this time of year anyone could ever come across. Ed Hardy’s Hearts and Daggers. It’s got this fragrant,  lovely warming, musky scent with hints of fruitiness is perfect. For me it addresses all of the scents of fall in one quick spray. You can’t fault this perfume and it lasts forever. (also just to add to it’s awesomeness it comes with a tiny spray to keep in your bag! WIN!)

So there is my October Faves! I had a big old variety of faves this month so I hope some were shared or have given you some inspiration! Let me know in the comments 🙂
